Undergraduate/ Graduate Scholarship Fund
The scholarship fund is designated to award $1,000 scholarships to full time students that are pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree at an accredited university in the United States of America. The Beta Chi Theta Foundation, during its inaugural year, distributed seven $1,000 undergraduate scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic years. Scholarships will be awarded based on demonstrated academic achievement, and leadership roles within the fraternity at national or chapter level. Additional scholarships will be awarded to students that demonstrate financial need. Applications for the scholarship fund for 2017-2018 academic year will open Fall of 2017.
The leadership fund is meant to provide current undergraduate/graduate students to funding to attend conferences that can provide opportunities to advance their educational/career aspiration. In order for individuals to quality for these funds, the Beta Chi Theta Foundation must endorse the initiative as a meaningful educational or professional development. Grants will also be provided for pre-approved events/conference hosted by IFC,MGC,NAPA, and more that relate to fraternity/Greek development. Grants will be awarded based on a rolling basis. Thus, students are encouraged to apply early for consideration of funding.
Funding will be available for undergraduate/graduate students will be available nationwide to job shadow a Beta Chi alumni based on their career preferences. This will give an opportunity for a current full time undergraduate/graduate student an opportunity to spend a day with an alumnus at their workplace and experience what the job/company is really like. For example, if a brother studying computer science has an interest in working in tech, the Foundation would coordinate a shadowing opportunity with an alumnus or another professional that works at a startup in Silicon Valley. The Foundation will work with the Brother to cover certain costs related to travel, accommodations, etc.
Professional webinars will be uploaded on a portal dedicated to help undergraduate/graduate brothers learn about various topics relating to (and not limited to) resume building, networking, interviewing, etc. Each video will cover a specific topic and include an overview of a topic. There will also be a portion related to Q&A addition to answer questions that are sent in (prior to recording the video). These videos will serve as a guide for brothers to learn tips and tricks that can help advance them in the professional world.
Regional Professional Development Conference
The regional professional development conference would be similar the current regional conference hosted by Beta Chi chapters except that the Foundation’s efforts will focus strictly on professional development. This will current undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, and experience that will help in finding internships, full time jobs, or transitioning careers. In addition, workshops will include a professional development portion to help transition individuals into leadership positions within their chapter/colony, the fraternity in general. The day would be split up into three components: workshops, career panel, and a networking dinner. The one-day conference will be hosted by a Beta Chi Chapter and the conference will be geared towards brothers from nearby chapters within the region. The first region the Foundation will focus on is the Northeast region.
